Rep. Day Welcomes American Legion Youth to State Capitol

Jefferson City – State Representative David Day (R-Dixon) welcomed over 80 youth to Jefferson City for the annual American Legion of Missouri Youth Government Day on Tuesday, April 13th.  Rep. Day is the current Chairman of the annual event which has been in place for Missouri youth for over 20 years.  Missouri’s Youth Government Day is an opportunity for young citizens of the state to witness government in action firsthand and learn about how their government works.

 L to R: Charles Kruse, President-MO Farm Bureau;

Lynn Dorrell, Sr. Vice Commander; Rep. David Day

“It is an honor to work with both the leaders of the American Legion and these great young people during this event which has become a wonderful tradition in our state’s capitol city” said Rep. Day.  “These young people leave the day with a very good understanding of their state government works and hopefully an increased desire to become involved in the process in the future”.

During the day the participants see the House of Representatives in session, meet with various elected officials, tour the capitol, visit the Supreme Court, and hear from various leaders in the state.  The keynote speaker at the lunch was Missouri Farm Bureau President Charles Kruse.  Rep. Day and Mr. Kruse served on the Missouri Farm Bureau Board of Directors together for over 13 years.

“It was a special treat to have the opportunity to introduce a dear friend, Charlie Kruse, to these young people” continued Day.  “Charlie relates so well to them and brings a unique perspective of government, not as an elected official but as someone that has worked with elected officials and the system of government for many years.  He is not only a great personal friend, but a great leader in our state” concluded Day.  Among numerous other positions, Mr. Kruse served as a past Director of Agriculture of Missouri and was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2003 & 2005 to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.

Representative Day was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and is the Chairman of the House Veterans Committee.
