Rep. Day Honors Laquey Elementary Students
November 19, 2009
Jefferson City – State Representative David Day, R-Dixon, recently presented three students from Laquey Elementary with House Resolutions honoring their winning posters in a statewide contest to raise awareness of homelessness in Missouri. Michael Fleschute, Tristan Gan, and Faith Long were recognized during a program hosted by the Governor’s Committee to End Homelessness on Thursday in the state capitol. Prior to the official program, Rep. Day presented each student with a resolution during a private meeting in his office.
“I am very proud of these students and their compassion towards those less fortunate,” Rep. Day said. “The number of homeless people in our state is staggering. It is important we educate our students so they understand at an early age the importance of this issue. I am also thankful for their teacher, Mrs. Amanda Crismon. Our students are very lucky to have teachers like Mrs. Crismon preparing them for the future.”
The poster contest for children Pre-K through 12th grade was held in conjunction with Homeless Awareness Week. Over 500 children participated and submitted over 300 posters. The theme of this year’s event was “Homelessness-The Reality is in our Back Yard."
