Commander of American Ex-Prisoners of War Thanks Day
Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
As the regular Missouri legislative session has drawn to a close for this year I can say that I have had the good fortune of seeking and receiving council and assistance from one or your senior state legislators. Republican Representative David Day from your 148th District took a very key and personal interest in helping to pass a joint resolution that will, if passed by the voters of Missouri, exempt disabled WWII ex-POW’s as well as those of other conflicts from their real estate taxes.
As Missouri State Commander for the American Ex-Prisoners of War I had the occasion to support HJR-15 which was a little known but important piece of legislation to the ex-POWs and their families. Representative Day who is chairman of the House Veterans Committee upon becoming aware of the legislation was anxious to assist with its passage through the house. He worked across party lines with a lack of bias that made success possible. He was optimistic, enthusiastic, and an accomplished political tactician.
Being senior enough in the House of Representatives he has had the opportunity to chair various prestigious committees but has opted to chair the Veterans Committee from which he can do the most to support our veterans and for which we as veterans are very fortunate. Very approachable and pleasant he is highly respected among his fellow legislatures. We are very grateful for his support and you as a constituency should be very proud to be represented by him.
